A window stays lit in an empty building. What harmless explanation would make a good story?

The Hour BetweenAnyone can pass

READ ALOUD · PLAY TOGETHER

Someone reads aloud. Explore the answer together; you do not have to agree.

Anyone can pass. Tap Next when you are ready to move on.

A little more guidance

Read aloud. One person begins; respond to what they say, or share your own answer. For a round, invite each person once. Anyone may pass. Move on when you are ready. The device can stay on the table. Reading does not make you the first answerer.

FIVE CHAPTERS. MANY WAYS IN.

Dusk, peculiar rules
and breakfast afterwards.

Begin with seven selected cards, pick a chapter or draw freely from the full edition. These are independent scenes and conversations, not a mystery with a hidden solution. Follow one idea, make another or leave a loose end.

HOW TO PLAY

Read it aloud.
Let the strange part begin.

Open the seven-card conversation or choose a chapter. Every card supplies its own scene or question, so you never need to remember an earlier plot. There is no winner, correct explanation or performance to deliver.

  1. 01

    Anyone reads

Read the card and its guidance aloud. Reading does not make you the first answerer. A normal voice is enough. Use an imagined example whenever you prefer, or pass without explaining.

  2. 02

    Take turns beginning

For two: one begins and the other responds or gives an answer; swap who starts next time. In a group: a volunteer begins. Round cards invite each person once; a sentence or a pass is enough.

  3. 03

    Follow the unexpected detail

Add a detail, ask a question or keep a different version. The card names the finish when you are making something together. Tap Next when you are ready; pause, change chapters or finish whenever you like.

01 / CHOICES

Decide, then compare

Read both options. Each decide silently first; say your choices together on three. Talk about what drew you to them. No votes are submitted on the phones.

02 / TINY SCENES

Give it one good detail

Finish a note, invent a strange instruction or change a story’s mood. Each task names its finish: often one sentence or one detail. Say or describe it normally. You never have to perform a character or make a sound effect.

03 / SHARED INVENTIONS

Add an idea each

Each offer an idea before combining them. A two-step ritual, a two-dish menu or a two-sentence postcard gives the invention a finish. Say the result aloud; no writing or props needed. Two versions are welcome.

04 / PECULIAR AGREEMENTS

Let everyone propose first

In a supplied imaginary scene, each propose an arrangement before responding. Keep one idea, or name the difference you enjoy. You are deciding what could happen in a story, not making promises to one another.

Big enough to read. Small enough to bring.
